Roland J. Mellish, 71, of Chicora, a long-time Sugarcreek Twp., Armstrong Co. farmer, passed away in the company of his family late Sunday evening, March 29, 2026, at Allegheny-General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Roland was born in Butler on February 3, 1955. He was the son of the late William J. and Hildegarde Smittman Mellish.

He was a 1973 graduate of East Brady High School. Roland was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora. Mr. Mellish owned and operated the Mellish Farm and Roland J. Mellish Trucking in Sugarcreek Twp. for many years. He was employed by M & M Lime Co. as a Lab Technician. Most recently, he worked for his son, Clinton, at Mellish Construction.

Roland had a strong work ethic and enjoyed cutting firewood, working outdoors and in the woods, fixing and repairing in his garage, and hunting deer and groundhogs. He most especially enjoyed the company of his family and friends. He was a member of the Rimersburg Rod and Gun Club.

Roland is survived by his wife, Amy A. Crawford Mellish, whom he married in Chicora on August 10, 1979. Also surviving are two sons, Clinton J. Mellish and Corey T. Mellish, and his wife, Heather, all of Chicora. Roland was affectionately “Bop Pop” or “Pap” to his nine grandchildren, whom he adored, Gavin, Grace, Jocelyn, C.J., Jacob, Tucker, Ryker, Cayson, and Sadie. Also surviving are his siblings, Francis Theodore “Ted” Mellish and his wife, Nancy, and William John “Jack” Mellish and his wife, Diane, all of Chicora; a sister, Nancy M. Williams and her husband, Rev. Phillip Williams of Gibsonia, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2026, and on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 11 a.m. – 12 Noon. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at Noon with the Rev. Joseph Boomhower, a retired Lutheran pastor, officiating.
