Ruth S. “Ruthy” Schiebel


Ruth S. “Ruthy” Schiebel, 87, of Chicora, passed away peacefully while in the company of her family on December 11, 2023, at the Chicora Medical Center following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

Ruth was born in Butler on November 21, 1936.  She was the daughter of the late Edward C. and Anna M. Benson Waltman.

She was a 1954 graduate of Fairview Twp. Karns City High School.  She enjoyed yardwork, flower gardening, and traveling.  Ruth was a devoted homemaker, mother, and grandmother.  She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in the Village of North Oakland and the church’s Christian Mothers. In her early years, Ruth had been employed by Butler County Ford. She retired from JC Penney in Butler following many years of service.

She is survived by her husband, Clarence F. “Sonny” Schiebel, whom she married at St. Joseph on May 17, 1957. Also surviving are three children, Gregory E. Schiebel and his wife, Diane, of Worthington, Daniel M. Schiebel and his wife, Vicky, of Butler, and Jacqueline A. Johnston and her husband, Tim, of Chicora; her grandchildren, Stephanie Hile, Danielle Durkacs and her husband, Justin, Samantha Schiebel, Timothy Johnston, and Andrew Johnston and his wife, Heather; her great-grandchildren, Marissa Simmons, Billy Simmons, Cam and Landyn Durkacs, Alessi Schiebel, Daisy Johnston, and Ruth was looking forward to the birth of her seventh great-grandchild; a great great grandson, Jackson Simmons; her step-grandchildren, Chad McCall and his wife, Megan, and Sara McCall; her step-great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Eleanor McCall; her sisters, Lois Williams of Chicora and Edna Barger and her husband, Nelson, of East Brady, and Thelma Foust of Sarver, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Henry Williams II and Dennis Foust, as well as several other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Quality Life Services in Chicora.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 864 Chicora Rd., Chicora, with the Rev. Matt McClain, pastor of St. Clare Parish, officiating. The interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in the Village of North Oakland.
