Sherry L. Brothers, 75, of Karns City, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in the comfort of her home following a brief but courageous battle with bile duct cancer.
Sherry was born in Butler on October 06, 1950. She was the daughter of the late Samuel W. McCracken Sr. and Elizabeth “Betty” Mahood McCracken.
Sherry was a graduate of Fairview Township Karns City High School. In her earlier years, she was employed at Castle Rubber Co. in East Butler. Sherry married Robert L. “Bob” Brothers in Haysville on July 31, 1970. She took time off to devote herself to making a home and raising her family. Later, she returned to work and retired from the Office of Personnel Management in Boyers.
Sherry never really met a stranger and had “a face that anyone could talk to.” She took pride in and welcomed everyone to her beautiful home, refused to let them leave hungry, and especially enjoyed the company of family and friends, “taking five” on her porch swing. She also loved meeting them for breakfast or lunch at various local restaurants. She enjoyed camping in Tionesta, floating on the river, traveling throughout the southern states with her husband after retirement, and trips to Florida beaches with her daughter-in-law and granddaughters. She also loved cuddling and spending time with her Boston terriers, “Holly and Molly.” Sherry’s true passion, however, was quilting. She kept both her imagination and hands busy creating new quilt patterns, hand-piecing quilt patches and hand quilting her creations. She gained many new friends by joining the West Sunbury Quilter’s Guild and delighted in sharing the quilts with her family and friends.
Sherry is survived by her two children, Kristl Double and her husband, Jason and Jason Brothers and his wife, Ericka (Hawk), her granddaughters, Rayne Brothers Smith and her husband, Blake and Briar Brothers, all of Karns City. She is also survived by her sister, Pam Bryan, a sister-in-law, Laura Brothers, and two brothers-in-law, Samuel Brothers and James Weis, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away on July 20, 2023. She was also preceded in death by her brother,
Samuel McCracken Jr. and his wife Linda, her sisters-in-law, Loretta Weis, Barbara Brothers, and Beverly Brothers, and her brothers-in-law, Richard and George Brothers, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Good Samaritan Hospice, especially nurses Nikki and Tammy, who offered immeasurable comfort and support through this difficult time and helped fulfill Sherry’s wish of remaining in her home.
Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City.
Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 134 Marwood Dr., Cabot, PA 16023. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
