Walter S. "Butch" Confer, 82, of Parker, passed away at 7:20 AM Tuesday, morning, November 4, 2025, at Quality Life Services, Chicora, following a period of declining health.
Born in West Foxburg on January 19, 1943, he was the son of the late Charles Walter and Mildred Phillips Confer.Â
A 1961 Graduate of A.C.V. School District, he served during Vietnam (In Nam) and was honorably discharged with the rank of SP/4. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter on the M-14 rifle.Â
Butch was a member and past commander of VFW Post 7073 in Parker, past Armstrong County VFW Commander, and National Aide-de-Camp of VFW Post 1973. He was also a member and past commander of American Legion 598 of Parker. He was a very proud American.
He was employed at Quaker State and Knox Glass and retired after 25 years as an operator at Parker City Authority.
Butch was known for providing meals on wheels as health permitted, was a former Rotarian (later PACSO), and also led sausage sales at Rotary/PACSO. He also enjoyed making woodworking gifts for veterans and finding Parker artifacts.Â
A life member of the Parker City VFD, and was a retired captain of the fire police. He also served as a scoutmaster of troop 250 in Parker for many years.Â
Serving on the GAR cemetery board, he was also a Life member of the VFW National Home at Eaton Rapids, MI.Â
Butch was protestant by faith. Â
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor E. Grazier Miller-Confer, and her children: Nancy (Rev. Gary) Sheesley of Sligo, Mary Ellen (Daniel) Adamson of Penfield, Betsy (Friend Philip Jones) Miller of Titusville, Arthur Leonard "Artie" Miller Sr. (Shannon) of Parker, and William "Bill" (Christine) Miller of Kingsport, TN. several grand and great-grandchildren. His sister: Delores Krepps of Uniontown. Â
Butch was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
 Visitation for Butch will be on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 -8:00 PM at the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home in Parker, 201 Wayne Ave.
A Fireman's service will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday at the Funeral Home.Â
Veteran's Service at 10:45 AM Saturday, November 8, 2025, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM, all at the Funeral Home. The Interment will follow at the Perryville Cemetery. Â
