Wetzel Park Dedication Ceremony Planned

Perry Twp. Historical Society has planted Redbud and Magnolia trees at Wetzel Park in West Freedom in honor of America’s 250th Anniversary, and there will be a dedication at their celebration on Saturday, June 6th. In addition to the trees, a lighted telescopic flagpole has been erected and will be included in the dedication.

This free event will begin at noon with a self-serve picnic lunch available all afternoon, or as long as the food lasts. The dedication will be at 12:30. At 1:00, township resident, pastor and former U.S. Marine Dan Myers will demonstrate the proper way to fold a flag and young and old can practice the skill. Judy Rawson will portray Betsy Ross at 1:30 followed by a game for all ages identifying historical figures with the parts played by the audience volunteers. Fife and drum music will be provided by a group featuring Logan Green, ACV band director. A 250th birthday cake with lots of candles and sparklers will be lit around 3:00.

Events have been designed for all ages with lots of gifts and prizes. In addition, the two-room school in West Freedom will be opened from 11 am to 4 pm for browsing. Those who have previously visited will want to return for the “New For 2026” display. The Society’s volunteers invest a lot of effort and personal financing to provide events and attendance and participation is greatly appreciated.
