What is Under St. Clare & Francis Parishes?

St. Clare & Francis Parishes includes much of the Petroleum Valley and its world-class chemical and refining companies. In October 2022 Professor Bruce Beaver examined how this region and its people were vital in jump-starting global fossil fuel development about 160 years ago. Professor Beaver will update this talk by examining how this region and its people have contributed to the ongoing global fossil fuel revolution. This talk will briefly examine the science and technology that facilitates this revolution along with the global significance of increasing global natural gas supply. This presentation will be embedded in the framework of Catholic Social Teaching to provide points of spiritual reflection on fossil fuel’s blessings and challenges.

All are invited to Mater Dolorosa Church Hall, Chicora, on Saturday, November 9, 2:00-4:00 PM for Bruce’s presentation. There will be an opportunity for local folks who, are currently participants in this fascinating story, to share their experiences.
