Father’s Day Weekend at Lincoln Hall

This is the ultimate night out on Father’s Day weekend! Downbeat Magazine’s 2024 #1 Rising Star Male Vocalist Benny Benack III returns on the Eve of Father’s Day with HIS father - Pittsburgh legend Benny Benack II also known for his charismatic audience appeal - plus his phenomenal NYC band featuring Tyler Bullock, piano, Caleb Tobocman, bass and George Heid III, drums on Saturday, June 14 at 7:30 PM. Seeing father & son performing “Bourbon Street Parade” together is unforgettable, magical, “feel-good” world class entertainment – more special in the intimacy of Foxburg’s charming Lincoln Hall. Beer and Wine sold.
This Emmy-nominated Trumpeter and Vocalist is an outrageously talented, home-grown boy from Pittsburgh (the other ‘Burgh just down river) who has taken the world by storm. It will be ‘A Hot Time in the Old Town’ right here in the beautiful Allegheny-Clarion River Valley as one of the most virtuosic and versatile leading voices of his generation, BBIII vocalist, trumpet player and showman extraordinaire - performs gorgeous ballads, blues and sizzling jazz with which he’s blazed across the country and around the world on tour.
Following in the footsteps of his trumpeter/bandleader grandfather and saxophonist/clarinetist father, “BB3” is a force to be reckoned with. Benny’s artistry and STAR POWER are in full bloom, as a reviewer of his Birdland performance described: “When is the last time you were in a jazz club but thought you were at a rock concert? Sunday night at The Birdland Theater you would’ve thought it was a rock and roll show, with all the screaming and hootin’ and hollerin’ from the audience. It was pandemonium! But, then, of course, the act on the stage was the Benny Benack III Quartet, and there is actually every chance that, on a parallel plane, they could be a rock band. They are all young, handsome, edgy, and oh-so-cool, and they play their instruments like rock and roll musicians – they just happen to be playing jazz.
Listening to… watching… Benack play his horn is joyful – you can’t do it without smiling. The lightning speed of his fingers. The extremity of the backbend. The emotional content of his face. The visible journey he is on. These are all ingredients in a music show audibly and visually thrilling…”
For those longing for a nostalgic return to the greats of a by-gone era, Benny III takes you down musical-memory lane with his smooth Frank Sinatra vocal styling, superb scatting besting the greats and the glorious riffing of trumpet legends Freddie Hubbard and Louis Armstrong: “His smooth, polished voice… brings to mind a number of old-school singers, including Mel Tormé, an uncommon reference point among today’s cohort of young jazz musicians. Almost everything about Benny Benack III, the 30-year-old trumpeter and vocalist, suggests that he arrived from a different era.”
One day you’ll say – I saw him in Lincoln Hall! This artist is destined for greatness – and he also happens to be one the greatest guys in the world – a real ‘Yinzer’ with a passionate love for the music, dazzling smile and panache on full-display! Having sold out Lincoln Hall in his 2022 performance with his NYC rhythm section, this will be a stellar night of music and high voltage entertainment!

Alongside his global touring as a straight-ahead, contemporary bandleader, his ‘rep’ and professional ‘cred’ are TOPS – performing with greats around the world and featured at Birdland, Jazz @ Lincoln Center, Mezzrow, Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle and other leading New York venues – and as a special guest with the Pittsburgh Symphony Pops Orchestra. Recent TV credits include “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and his global recognition has been bolstered through collaborations with the GRAMMY-award winning “8-Bit Big Band” and touring with Postmodern Jukebox.
