Celie L. “Sue” Fennell Gladys, 86, of Chicora, went home to be with her Lord early Monday, April 18, 2022. “Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a teardrop.”
Celie was born in Chicora on July 29, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Harold “Ching” and Alice Stevenson Fennell.
Sue, as she was affectionately known to her family, was a 1953 graduate of Chicora High School. In her earlier years, Sue worked as a nurse's aide. In her later years, she enjoyed babysitting in her home and baking cakes.
Sue was a member of the Chicora United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Cheerful Workers Class.
Celie was married to Leo Gladys on April 27, 1968, in Ford City. Mr. Gladys preceded her in death on March 11, 2020.
Surviving to cherish her memory are two daughters, Tracy Waltman and her husband, Bob, of Butler, and Susan Green and her husband, Tom, of Chicora; four grandchildren, with whom Sue love spending time with and considered them special joys of her life, Kinsey Green of Erie, Cameron Green and his wife, Makayla, of Chicora, and Kassidee and Alexis Waltman of Butler; two sisters-in-law, Geri Fennell of Denham Springs, LA and Pat Ross of Boardman, OH; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and very close friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, and a brother-in-law.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 22, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Chicora United Methodist Church, 203 Central Ave. with the Rev. Jim Lewis, church pastor, officiating.
