Christopher S. “Chris” Dunmyre, 64, of Chicora, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes, on Tuesday morning, May 14, 2024, at his home.
Christopher was born in Butler on October 7, 1959. He was the son of the late Robert L. and Avanelle M. Hilderbrand Dunmyre.
Chris was a life member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora where he was a longtime lector. He was a 1977 graduate of Karns City Area High School and had earned an associate’s degree in mass media from Penn State, Wilkes-Barre.
Throughout his working career, Chris had been employed by several communications companies and was a well-known radio personality and DJ at WBUT Radio in Butler. He had been employed for the past several years as an EPA State Board Certified Wastewater Systems Operator for the Bear Creek Watershed Authority in Petrolia. Chris had a keen interest and love for all things baseball and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan and a team historian.
Chris is survived by his sister, Lana S. Callihan, and her husband, Daniel, of Ellicott City, MD; his nieces and nephew, Erin C. Lentscher and her husband, James, of Glenwood, MD, Daniel L. Callihan and his wife, Kristen, of Phoenix, MD, and Shannon C. Hardee and her husband, Jonathan, of Glenelg, MD; his great nieces and a great nephews, Keara, Tommy, and Andrew Lentscher, Dean and Walter Callihan, and Ellie and Callie Hardee; an aunt, Sandy Hilderbrand of Mt. Chestnut, as well as several cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey R. Dunmyre, who passed away on May 14, 2023, a sister Jody A. Dunmyre, who passed away on Dec. 2, 2023, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2024. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, from Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, 409 North Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. Matt McClain, pastor of St. Clare Parish, officiating. The interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
