Colonel “Sonny” Switzer, Sr., 84, of Sligo, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, peacefully at his home.
He was born on November 10, 1941. in Parker. He was the son of Thomas and Elsie (Dunkle) Switzer.
Sonny married Nancy Morris on October 26, 1985, and she survives.
He was a Mechanic at the former C&K Coal Company for 45 years and also worked for RFI Energy.
Sonny was a member of the Knight Cruisers Car Club and the International Order of Masonic Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on his Dodge Ram Charger, going to auctions, car shows, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Switzer of Sligo, two daughters, Michele Wolfe of Parker, Dianna Switzer of Kittanning, three sons, Tim (Betty) Switzer of Rimersburg, Colonel Switzer, Jr. of GA., Brad Switzer of Parker, one brother, Deryl Switzer of Emlenton, one sister, Dolly Wolfe of Sligo, 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a step-daughter, Lisa Morris, two sisters, Jeanie Fair, Betty Kriebel, and three brothers, Ed, Rich, and Tom Switzer.
Sonny’s family will receive friends on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 AM, with the Pastor, Tom Switzer, officiating.
The interment will follow in the Sligo Cemetery.
