Elizabeth M. “Betsy” McGarvey
Elizabeth M. “Betsy” McGarvey, 81, of Emlenton, went to be with her Lord and her husband early Saturday afternoon, September 19, 2026, at Shippenville Nursing and Rehabilitation in Shippenville.
Elizabeth was born on January 31, 1945, in Point Pleasant, NJ. She was the daughter of the late James and Doris Hildenbrand Schiele.
She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Lamartine. Betsy enjoyed ceramics painting, crocheting, looked forward to spending time at Gaslight Campground with family and friends, the companionship of her pets “Sally” and “Kissie”, and most especially the company of her grandkids and great grandkids. In her earlier years, Betsy was a well-known patron in the Emlenton area restaurants where she enjoyed chatting over a cup of coffee, was never bashful about offering her opinion and could “hold her own” against any incoming teasing or testiness.
Betsy was preceded in death by her husband Arthur J. “Bud” McGarvey who passed away on January 11, 2014. The couple had been married in Rahway, NJ on Christmas Eve of 1964.
She is survived by two children Arthur R. “Buddy” McGarvey and his wife Tammy and Janell M. Whitebird and her husband Donald, all of Emlenton; four grandchildren: Danielle Wade and her husband Devon of Viola, DE, James E. “Jimmy” McGarvey, Brandon D. Whitebird, both of Emlenton, and Donald R. Whitebird and his wife Sonia, of San Antonio, TX; six great grandchildren: David, Colten, and Casen Whitebird, Ellie Wade, Raylan Wade, and Venessa Whitebird; four brothers: James Schiele and his wife Shirley, Jospeh Schiele, Marc Schiele, and Mark Flores; three sisters: Katherine Brizzi, Diane and her husband Chuck, and Holly Gruberer and her husband Robert; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers in law, sisters in law, and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Pam Schiele, John Flores, Charlene Frazier, and Ellen Hornayk.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home, Inc. 1204 Kerr Ave. Emlenton, from 12-3 p.m., Saturday, September 26, 2026. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 3 p.m. The interment will be in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lamartine.
