David H. Fleeger, 78, of Karns City, passed away peacefully at home in the company of his family Thursday evening, November 6, 2025.
David was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan on March 11, 1947. He was the son of the late John M. and Marian L. Potts Fleeger.
He was a 1965 graduate of Fairview Twp. Karns City High School and was a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served his country in Vietnam and was stationed in Thailand with Stratcom. David was a life member of the former VFW Post in Chicora and was a member and past commander of Post # 642 American Legion in Chicora. David was a well-known master of ceremonies for Chicora’s Memorial Day Parade and a faithful participant with the post’s funeral honor guard. He was a member of the Chicora Moose Lodge. As a youth, David was active in scouting and was honored as an Eagle Scout in 1962. In his earlier years, he enjoyed attending his children’s sporting events including helping coach his daughter’s softball and pom pom team and his son’s soccer team. He also enjoyed golfing, woodworking, gardening, projects around the house, and following retirement, David and his wife enjoyed cruises and traveling, including trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, The National Parks of the Western United States, Alaska, New England, New Orleans, Brazil, and a special trip to California in 2018 where they attended the Rose Bowl Parade.
David earned an associate degree in mathematics from Butler County Community College. He was employed for almost 41 years as an electrical and instrumentation supervisor at Witco/Sonneborn in Petrolia. During the course of his employment he continued his education attending various seminars and certification classes throughout the country. He retired in 2016.
Surviving is his wife, Ruth Ann McCloskey Fleeger, whom he married at St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church in Meridian on January 30, 1971. Also surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon A. and Paul Moyer of Karns City, a son and daughter-in-law, Zachary D. and Taylor Fleeger of North Conway, NH; three grandchildren, Dalton Moyer and Archer and Sterling Fleeger; two great grandchildren, Weston and Aubrie Moyer; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Nancy Fleeger of Butler; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and David Rodgers of Chicora, a sister-in-law, Deborah Fleeger of Karns City, a foreign exchange student from Brazil, Daniel Thuronyi, whom David proudly called, "his number two son"; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard “Dick” Fleeger, and a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City, from Noon-3 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2025. Military honors will be held from the funeral home at 2:45 p.m. by members of the Chicora and Brady’s Bend American Legion Posts. The interment will be in Hillview Cemetery in the Village of Kepple’s Corners.
