Local Emlenton Resident Establishes Membership Scholarship

The Boys and Girls Club Along The Allegheny would like to announce that Board Member, Andor P- Jobb and his late wife; Jae Ann Brown of Emlenton will be providing the monetary resources for one girl and one boy each month to become a member of the Boys and Girls Club Along the Allegheny in Emlenton.

Andor P. Jobb, who turned ninety-three, last month, has seen his fair share of struggles and credits his upbringing and his after school programming for shaping his life. As a young boy, Andor lived a tale of two lives in Hungary in the 1950’s, a time which deeply humbled and propelled him to get an education and fight for a new way of life and better opportunities.

Strife within his own country caused by Russian occupation and ideology changed the landscape of Hungary in 1956. “Hungary prior to the Russian invasion was a very conservative state, promoting education, peace and a good way of life. Our after school programs taught discipline, respect and kindness and the pursuit of a dream to become something better, for which I was always grateful.

But things changed after the Russian occupation, nearly 200,000 Hungarians sought political refugee with mostly to Austria. As Jobb states…. “Our way of life began to change, the regression of the individual began as we were told what to study, learn and believe.”

Andor P. Jobb was a young black belt and national medalist in his beloved Hungary in the 1950’s, built a new life in the USA, emigrating away from political unrest. Settling in Ohio he continued his academic and judo education, establishing several new dojos, coaching, competing and studying.

Reflecting on his past, Andor knows the importance and value of encouragement, even when things don’t look so good in the present. “Kids should have the opportunity to learn and grow in a positive environment with positive role models, it is such an important aspect especially for our youth and our community as a whole,” stated P-Jobb.

In January, at a time to be determined, Andor will chose twenty four youth (one boy and one girl) who will receive a free yearly memberships.
