Mary Eakman

Mary Eakman, 81, of Mercer, passed away August 14, 2026, at her home after a period of declining health.

Mary was born on March 2, 1945, in Rockland. She was the daughter of the late William and Erene (Delong) Maloney.

Mary graduated from Rocky Grove High School in 1963. She continued her education and received her LPN license on June 20, 1990, from Mercer County Vo-Tech School. Mary retired from Polk Center in 2007.

Mary was married to Robert Eakman on February 21, 1968.  Together, the couple celebrated 44 years of marriage before Bob’s passing on February 27, 2012.

Mary was the heart of her family, which was the most important thing to her.  She loved to read, crocheting items that her family now cherishes, and watching her favorite TV shows that included Mama’s family, AGT, Family Feud, and The Voice with her dog Toby and cat CeCe. Mary loved music. She and her family attended numerous concerts, and she loved Taste of Franklin to listen to the local talent.

She never passed up an opportunity to travel, going to the Outer Banks, Washington D.C., to North Carolina and Florida to see her sister, or to the zoo to look at the Panadas. She was always the first to the car. Mary was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Franklin and was baptized in October of 2000.

Loved ones to cherish her memory are her children, Mary Hassel (Fritz) of Jackson Center, Robert Eakman Jr. (Olive) of Grove City, Floyd Eakman (Kaylah) of Sandy Lake, and Tammy Bortz (Craig) of Emlenton.  Her grandchildren Josh Eakman, whom Mary and Robert raised as their own (Andy Thompson) of Mercer, Mike Stevenson (Shannon) of Polk, Katrina Wittman (Chris) of New York, Fred Hassell III of Sharpsville, Christina Stevenson (Bobby Hale) of Oil City, Corry Speir (Jamie) of Jackson Center, Cassie Uber (Don) of Mercer, Debbie Deal of Grove City, Marisa Rupert of Knox, Ashley Moore of Grove City, Ronin Eakman of Grove City, Desitny Dora of Grove City and Jenna, Jessica and Jessie Eakman all of Sandy.
