Moniteau School District Dedicates the “Luciano Plesakov Stadium” Prior To Football Game

The sign was being unveiled during the dedication ceremony.

 

The formal dedication of the renaming of the Moniteau Football Field to “The Luciano Plesakov Stadium” was held on Friday evening September 15, 2023.

The dedication was held at 6:30 PM and was led by the American Legion Post 243 of West Sunbury, PA.

The American Legion Post 243 donated the funds to pay for the new score board, pictured above.

The stadium was named in honor of Corporal Luciano Paul Plesakov, who graduated from Moniteau High School in 1965. Plesakov, while serving in the U.S. Marines Corps in the Vietnam War was killed in action on May 3, 1967, at the Que Son River Valley, Quang Tin Province, Vietnam. He was a M-60 Machine Gunner with A Company. His name is one the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington DC and can be seen on panel 19E – line 30. His home was in Hilliards. Plesakov was the only graduate of Moniteau High School to be killed in action. He is buried at West Sunbury Cemetery, Butler County, PA.

A 40x80 American Flag was rolled out during the ceremonial dedication of Luciano Plesakov Stadium. It was a remarkable site.

The school district thanked the many individuals who helped make this moment possible, classmate, teammates and family members along with the American Legion Post 243 for the purchase of the Sign; Honor Flight Pittsburgh for the generous monetary donation; District Magistrate Lewis Stoughton, Stoughton Sanitation in Memory of his Mother and Father for his generous monetary donation; and Mr. Jeff Campbell for his generous donation of time and resources.

The school district also honored all of their active duty service men & women, veterans and their families.

The Moniteau School District’s School Board declared the renaming of the football field to honor Cpl. Luciano Plesakov on June 26, 2023.

A museum type display of memorabilia was on display in the school for visitors to view.

While at Moniteau High School, Plesakov was a member of the football team, co-captain, and a member of the track team.
