It happened again! I double booked.
Actually, it wasn’t my fault the last two times. I was a victim of circumstance. You see, I keep a day planner with me at all times. It is a pocket-size booklet I keep in my purse, so I can write down upcoming events as they are being planned.
Sometimes, however, I forget to write one down, or discover that I already have one written down while I want to schedule another one. Or, sometimes Sweetheart and I can schedule two events on the same day if they are at different times.
Well, a couple of weeks ago, we planned to have supper for Sweetheart’s family. It was a time that was convenient for everyone. Shortly after that one of our friends invited Sweetheart and me and five other people to lunch the very same day. Well, we could fit both meals into our day, but could we fit both meals into our stomachs?
We tried to eat lightly at lunch, so we could do justice to the meal I would be preparing. It’s hard to do that when our hostess has gone to great lengths to prepare a sumptuous meal. As a result, we were only able to nibble at the sumptuous meal I had prepared for Sweetheart’s family. It’s embarrassing to prepare a doggie bag to take home to your own house.
It wasn’t my fault that we were double booked. I was a victim of circumstances.
Well, it happened again just last weekend. We had just made plans to have other members of Sweetheart’s family come to our house for Sunday dinner, when my nephew called and invited us to supper on the same day. I tried to convince him to change the dinner to another day, but he said Sunday was the only time he would have his whole family together.
We were stymied again!
However, we were able to munch our way through both meals with a minimum of stress and anxiety. The best part of the meals we ate was the people with whom we ate them.
And, when you think about it, wasn’t that double booking a wonderful problem to have? Especially when some people don’t have family with whom to share the holidays.
We can be thankful for such a wonderful problem and thank God for His blessings.
