On Sunny Lane: Stay Healthy

I have been battling a bronchial infection.

This is not a common, run-of-the-mill bronchial infection. It is the MOTHER of all bronchial infections! In fact, at one point I was feeling so dragged out that I thought it might be COVID, so I took a home test. It was negative.

My doctor prescribed an antibiotic. I kept waiting for it to kick in, but, if it did, I wasn’t aware of it. Or, maybe, I was being too impatient and expecting results too soon. Or, maybe, it still needs to run its course.

It’s easy to become impatient when you’re not feeling well. It’s easy to become discouraged, too—and depressed. When you’re sick, you feel like you’ve always been sick, that you will never get better and you will surely die. On the other hand, once you recover, you feel like you’ve never been sick.

Actually, Sweetheart and I were healthy all winter, while our friends were getting colds, sore throats and viruses. And Sweetheart isn’t sick now. However, he is facing the consequences of my misfortune.

For instance, because I was feeling under the weather, we missed the gospel jam on Thursday night, supper with friends on Friday, the local flea market on Saturday, church and jubilee on Sunday and the dance on Monday night. Being sick really cramped our style. I told Sweetheart he could go to church without me, but he wouldn’t do it.

It’s no fun staying home when you are accustomed to being out and about. Being sick takes its toll—physically, emotionally and spiritually. It seems they are all connected. If one aspect is off, they all suffer.

It probably behooves a person to keep them all in balance as much as possible, by caring for all of their needs.
