Paul L. “Bud” Anthony Sr.


Paul L. “Bud” Anthony Sr., 80, of Petrolia, passed away in the comfort of his home while in the presence of his loving family Monday morning, December 26, 2022.

Paul was born in Butler on July 31, 1942. He was the son of the late Earl L. Anthony and Paula Wick Byrnes.

He was a 2012 graduate of Karns City Area High School under a special program for United States Veterans. He was a U.S. Army veteran. In his early years, he had been employed as a welder at Pullman Standard and Spang in Butler. Bud and his wife, Diane, purchased Butler Canvas and Awnings and operated it together as Awnings Over Butler for a number of years.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Diane Ekis Anthony, whom he married in Bruin on April 13, 1968. Mrs. Anthony died on March 8, 2018.

Bud had been a long time member of the Kaylor United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, a cold beer, and sitting around the campfire with family and friends. He was a well-known singer and guitar player and enjoyed playing in area taverns on the weekends. He was proud to have performed with Bill Anderson at Country Paradise Park. He served for many years with the fire police of the Bruin and Petrolia Volunteer Fire Departments.

Paul is survived by his stepmother, Mary Jane Anthony of Butler; seven children, Richard P. “Dick” Anthony and his wife, Faith, of Petrolia, Amy B. McClure and her friend, Clayton Glover of East Brady, Penny D. Reep and her husband, Pat, of Parker, Kim Scott of Petrolia, Laura Switzer and Jacqueline Solada and her wife, Marla, all of Butler, and Paul L. Anthony Jr. and his wife, Bev, of Karns City; he was affectionately “Pap” to his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; two brothers, David Anthony of West Sunbury and William “Bill” Anthony and his wife, Tammy, of Butler; two sisters, Debbie Duncan of Fenelton and Janet Shuler of Butler; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Marc Blodgett, a brother, Larry Anthony, a sister, Sharon Hillwig, and his son-in-law, Brian Scott.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022, from the funeral home with the Rev. Floyd Barnhard, pastor of the Kaylor United Methodist Church, officiating. the interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia. Military honors will be accorded by member of the Chicora and Brady’s Bend American Legion Posts.
