On Saturday, June 14, 2025 the Brady’s Bend Pickleball Courts were dedicated and recognized as the William “Bill” Markel Pickleball Courts.
Markel passed away unexpectedly last November at the age of 64. Bill devoted himself to the sport, he served as a mentor, teacher, and friend to those regardless of their skill level who wanted to learn and play the sport of Pickleball. His patience, personality and love for the game made all who played on the Brady’s Bend Township courts feel welcome. Bill’s lasting legacy, and devotion to the game of Pickleball will forever be cherished and remembered.
The sign displayed at the park reads, Brady’s Bend Township Dedicates These Courts to William (Bill) Markel. “This court is dedicated to the memory of William “Bill” Markel, who loved his family, friends, and community. Whenever he was here, Bill brought energy, laughter, and fun to every match. He welcomed new players with open arms, encouraged friendly competition, and built lasting friendships with his trademark smile. More then just a player, Bill was a mentor, leader, and a friend. His presence transformed this court into more than just a playing space - it became a gathering place for those who loved being active together.
As you play here, may you honor his legacy by continuing to build the community he cherished. This court stands as a lasting tribute to a life well lived and a spirit that will never be forgotten.”
