Ronald Alan Hovis, 68, of St. Petersburg, went to be with the Lord at his home early Saturday morning, December 27, 2025, following a hard fought battle with cancer.
Ronald was born in Franklin on June 14, 1957. He was the son of the late William and Twila Sutley Hovis.
He was a 1975 graduate of Rocky Grove High School. He spent most of his working career in construction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an active member of the St. Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company for more than 20 years. During his years of service he held the positions of vice president, captain, safety officer, and had also served on the department’s board of trustees.
Ronald was preceded in death by his first wife, Penny Heigley Hovis, who passed away on January 7, 2008. He was later married to Dora Beth Barlett Hovis. Mrs. Hovis preceded him in death on March 10, 2025.
Ronald is survived by two daughters, Tabbatha Ochs and her husband, Joseph, of Lucinda and Elisha Sowa and her husband, Jim, of Knox; three sons, Aaron Stephens and Adam Hook of St. Petersburg, and Ryan Hook (Alixandria Lewis) of Fisher; eight grandchildren, James, Liam, Trenton, Audrina, Andrew, Owen, Mason, Molly, and he was looking forward to the birth of his ninth grandchild. Three sisters survive, Sandy McCandless and her husband, Don, of Georgia, Kathy Ward and her husband, Mike, and Karin Updyke and her husband, Jim, all of Franklin, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and his very close friends, Mark Barr and his wife, Sheri, of Parker and Dave Hockman of South Carolina.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hile Funeral Home Inc., St. Petersburg.
A memorial service to be held at the St. Petersburg Firehall will be announced at a later date.
