Sandra L. Smith


Sandra L. Smith, 78, of Greensburg, formerly of Maple Drive, Karns City, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, October 29, 2023, at New Haven Court in Greensburg.

Sandra was born in Greensburg on January 12, 1945. She was the daughter of the late Francis J. and Eva Trump Poole.

She was a 1962 graduate of Hempfield Area Senior High School and graduated from Slippery Rock University with a B.S. in elementary education.

Sandra was employed as a school teacher for more than 20 years with the Karns City Area School District and taught second grade at Bruin and Sugarcreek Elementary School, where she had earned the respect of the district’s parents, students and staff.

She was a long time active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora. She enjoyed the company of her dogs, “Bambi and Rosie”, attending car shows with her husband, reading, traveling, lunch with the “lunch bunch” and most especially the company of her grandkids.

Sandra married her high school sweetheart, Gary G. Smith in Greensburg on March 2, 1963. Mr. Smith preceded her in death on December 28, 2017.

She is survived by four children, Terri L. Geary and her husband, Rich, of Latrobe; Gary F. Smith and his wife, Michele, of Martinez, GA; Jeffrey A. Smith and his wife, Carisa, of Petrolia; and Todd G. Smith and his wife, Tricia, of Grove City; seventeen grandchildren, Adam Schrecongost (Nikki), Seth Schrecongost (Jes), Katie Costic (Jamie), Tory Russo, Joey Russo, Jason Geary, Kurt Smith, Dylan Smith (Ashley Blevins), Garret Smith, Justin Smith (Kylee), Sydney Smith, Kendyll van Wyk (Daan), Derrick, Ethan, Owen, Cassie and Alex Smith; fourteen great grandchildren, Destiny, Madison, Brayden, Enslee, Lettie, McCoy, Nash, Palmer, Aubrey, Jordan, Devon, Paisleigh, Landen and Leighayla; her sister, Sherry Poole and her husband, Rick Yakubisin, of Greensburg, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Poole and a sister, Gloria Piconi.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Novmber 1, 2023 and on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 10 – 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chicora. A funeral service will follow at the church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Boomhower, church pastor, officiating.

A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Export.
