Scott E. Whitmer, 67, of Fairview, Apple Rd., Petrolia, passed away peacefully at home while in the company of his family early Wednesday morning, October 29, 2025.

Scott was born in Butler on June 10, 1958. He was the son of the late Joseph L. and Nelda M. “Tillie” Campbell Whitmer.

As a youth, Scott attended St. Peter Reformed Church in Fairview. He was a 1977 graduate of Karns City Area High School. He had been employed for many years as a bartender for several different proprietors at Shumaker’s, CJ’s and Hot Rod’s Tavern near Fairview. Scott enjoyed crafts and woodworking; he was an avid NASCAR fan, and also enjoyed playing poker machines, and drinking a cold beer. Most especially Scott looked forward to the company of his family and friends.

He is survived by his companion of 43 years, Margaret M. “Peg” Freiters, his son, Jacob T. “Jake” Freiters and his fiancée, Samantha Connolly of Fairview, a daughter, Amber Weibel and her husband, Jay, of East Brady; his grandchildren, Chandlar Freiters, and Malynn and Ethan Weibel; his sisters, Kristie Christie and her husband, Dennis, and Robin Runyan, all of Parker, as well as a number of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Sam Runyan, and a sister-in-law, Beverly Heeter.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City, from 12-3 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Eric V. Burkhard, pastor of Found Hope, officiating. Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery in Petrolia.
