CLARION, Pennsylvania: The state of Alaska conjures up images of grizzlies fishing for salmon, moose with huge antlers dripping with vegetation, and eagles soaring over dense spruce forests. As Tom and Janet Kuehl experienced during their birding tour in June of 2025, the state has all those sights and more. On May 13 at 6:00 PM at the Clarion Free Library, Tom will share photographic highlights from the couple’s tour of Nome, with its the surrounding tundra and rugged coastline. There is no better guide to the wildlife they encountered. Tom and Janet are longtime members of several Western Pennsylvania bird and nature clubs and Audubon chapters. Their passion for birds has led to their involvement in citizen science sports exemplified by bird counts, raptors surveys, and the breeding bird atlas. Tom is currently the Westmoreland County Compiler for the PA Birds Journal, and is a past president of the Pennsylvania Society of Ornithology. You’ll enjoy his enthusiasm and knowledge.
