Sonja M. Cratty


Sonja M. Cratty, 81, of Petrolia, went to be the Lord late Wednesday afternoon, October 25, 2023, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Sonja was born in the village of Eldorado, Parker Twp., Butler County, on December 3, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Mildred Rea Pennington.

She attended school in Eldorado, and in her earlier years, she was employed as a housekeeper at The Parker House. She was later employed by her brother, Orries, at J&S Industrial Supply in Petrolia. Sonja was also a dedicated homemaker and a loving caretaker to her husband in his later years. She enjoyed singing and dancing. Sonja had been a longtime active member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Emlenton.

Sonja was married in the Parker United Methodist Church on January 26, 1962, to Russell G. Cratty. Mr. Cratty passed away on July 23, 2011.

She is survived by by two daughters, Lorrie M. Ferringer and her husband, Daniel B. Jr., of Chicora, and Linda S. Spencer and her husband, Mark, of Volant; two grandchildren, Amber Roxbury and her husband, Richard, of Rimersburg, and Mason Spencer, and his wife, Rylie, of St. Petersburg; seven great-grandchildren, Makenzie, Skyler, Zander, Landen, Breeona, Myeles, and Dru; two brothers, Otis Pennington and his wife, Doreen, of Eldorado, and Clarence Pennington and his wife, Betty, of Tennessee; two sisters, Loretta Rea, of Parker and Randa Anthony and her husband, Walter “Butch”, of Eldorado; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sonja was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin Russell Ferringer, two brothers, Lewis and Orries Pennington, and a sister, Virginia Gehrs.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Monday, October 30, 2023, at the Fellowship Baptist Church, 3727 Oneida Valley Road, Emlenton. A funeral service will follow from the church at 12:15 p.m. with church pastor, Jacob Langdon, officiating. Interment will be in the North Washington Union Cemetery, Washington Twp., Butler County.

Memorial contributions in Sonja’s memory may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church.
