Kittanning, PA –Local veterans, service members, and their families are invited to attend the upcoming Veterans Stand Down event on Friday, September 19, 2025. The event, which focuses on serving those who have served our nation, will take place at the Kittanning Township Fire Hall, located at 13126 US-422, Kittanning, PA 16201.

The Veterans Stand Down provides essential resources and support, completely free of charge, to veterans and active service members. Attendees can access a variety of services, including healthcare screenings, haircuts, and light refreshments or a small lunch. Additionally, assistance with VA Compensation Claims will be available, alongside access to community-based resources and the presence of a VA Mobile Vet Center.

The event will have specific admittance times:

~ Veterans Only: 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM

~ General Admittance (Veterans, Service Members, and Families): 10:30 AM - 1:00 PM

“This is an incredibly unique opportunity for our Veterans, their family members, as well as for the community in Armstrong County as a whole. For the first time in at least a decade, the community is coming together to help provide information and resources to our local Veterans in need,” said Matthew Colian, Veteran Stand Down Committee Co-Chair. “This initiative underscores the community’s commitment to supporting those who have sacrificed for our country. The purpose of the Stand Down is to help Veterans overcome the underlying barrier that may be causing their homelessness. This event will provide resources to housing, healthcare, employment, and other supportive services that can be utilized right here in our local communities. We also encourage non-Veterans to attend the event after 10:30 AM.”

The Veteran Stand Down Committee hopes to aid Veterans and their families in need. “We are proud to offer a Stand Down event in Armstrong County. Many may not realize the need for benefits for area veterans, and many area veterans may not realize the services that are available,” said Kathy Rashlich, Stand Down Committee Co-Chair. Rashlich added, “Our goal is to bring everyone together in one location and build off the services available to best the needs of those that have served. Many people have worked very hard to put this event together, and businesses and services are donating their time to assist; we hope to have a great event and hope our local veterans will join us.”
