The Venango Area Chamber of Commerce proudly announces Warren Thomas as the 2025 Citizen of the Year, recognizing a lifetime of leadership, service, and dedication to strengthening the Venango County community. Through his commitment to agriculture, civic engagement, and community development, Warren exemplifies the values and spirit this honor represents.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Warren knew from an early age that farming was his calling. After earning a degree in Dairy Husbandry from Delaware Valley University, he chose to build his life and career in Venango County. Alongside his wife, Liz, Warren established Baytree Farm, which has grown into a respected agricultural enterprise and a valued community resource. Together, Warren and Liz are proud parents to their son, Willis.

Today, Baytree Farm produces 100% grass-fed lamb sold directly to individuals and restaurants, with demand extending well beyond Venango County to the Pittsburgh region and even New York City markets. In addition to livestock, the farm offers pumpkins and fall decorations and hosts an annual Fall Festival that brings families together to learn about agriculture and celebrate the region’s farming heritage.
Warren’s impact reaches far beyond the farm. He has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the long-term vitality of Venango County through decades of civic and nonprofit leadership. He currently serves as Chair of Bridge Builders Community Foundations, helping guide philanthropic investments that support individuals, nonprofits, and community initiatives throughout the region.
His service also includes leadership roles with the Oil Region Alliance, where he supported economic development while preserving the area’s rich history and natural resources. Warren currently serves on the Venango County Tax Assessment Board, the Venango County Land Bank, and the McElhattan Challenge Advisory Board, contributing to responsible redevelopment and community revitalization efforts across the county.
A passionate advocate for food access and sustainability, Warren has played a key role in expanding community garden initiatives throughout Venango County. He helped establish the Community Garden Fund at the Community Foundation, creating lasting opportunities for residents to grow and access healthy, locally produced food. He continues this work by supporting partnerships that connect local farms with food pantries and families in need. Warren is also an active supporter of the Farm Bureau, advocating for agriculture while engaging thoughtfully on issues affecting the broader community.
Those who know Warren describe him as humble, hardworking, and generous with his time and talents. His lifelong dedication to agriculture, civic leadership, and community well-being continues to leave a lasting impact on Venango County.
The Venango Area Chamber of Commerce is honored to recognize Warren Thomas as the 2025 Citizen of the Year and to celebrate his enduring contributions to making Venango County a stronger, more connected community. He will be recognized at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner on February 25, 2026.
