Watercolorist Andrew Hazelton & Historical Foxburg Photos in Red Brick Gallery

Foxburg’s Red Brick Gallery located on the bank of the Allegheny amid the pristine beauty of the Allegheny-Clarion River valley is the ideal venue for the exhibit of Andrew Hazelton. Opening on Friday, July 10, the exhibit runs weekends through Sunday, August 16.

Growing up in a similarly “wonderfully rural setting”, Andrew has had a passion for art since childhood and is committed that his art reflects his appreciation for nature and “the solid quality and purity of life in and around it.”

Andrew wrote, “In this ever-changing world, I find it even more crucial to bring an awareness to the importance of preserving our natural environment through the visual arts.”  He hopes his viewers will experience the emotional and spiritual connection he has to his subject matter.

To commemorate America’s 250th is a display of historical photographs of Foxburg assembled by Dr. Nicolas Young, who has researched the village and Fox family for an upcoming book.

The opening wine and cheese reception will be on Sunday, July 12 from 4 to 6 PM following the 250th Red, White and Wurlitzer concert of acclaimed organist Dave Wickerham with Metropolitan opera bass William Powers at 2 PM in Lincoln Hall.

While Andrew’s main medium is watercolor, he sometimes incorporates other mediums such as gouache, acrylics, pastels, ink, graphite, and charcoal to produce mixed media artwork.  He also uses a centuries old drawing medium known as silver point.  Each piece is a study of his ever-evolving process of self-exploration and creativity.

Born and raised in White River Junction, VT, he now lives in Grove City, PA. Andrew is primarily a self-taught artist who was fortunate to be mentored and instructed by the established artist Clifford B. West. Other artists influential to his work include NC Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, Jamie Wyeth, Robert Bateman, Winslow Homer and Claude Monet.

Over the years, he has been in multiple successful solo and group exhibitions and was featured as an upcoming local artist in a New Hampshire magazine. One of his juried trout paintings was included in the National Trout Unlimited Convention’s silent auction in White River Junction, VT. His mural depicting Sicilian culture was publicly display for over a decade in downtown Grove City, PA .

Andrew has a long history of awards including two Director’s Choice Awards from the Hoyt Arts and Education Center in New Castle, PA, a Corporate Award from the Bald Eagle Art League in Williamsport, PA and a Juror’s Recognition Award from the from AVA Gallery in Lebanon, NH.

He was selected as a nationally juried wildlife art exhibitor for several years at the Vermont Institute of Natural Science in Woodstock, VT and at McKeever Environmental Center Nature Art Exhibit. Recent juried exhibits include the Westmoreland Art Nationals Art and Photography Exhibition and the Hoyt 50th Regional Exhibition.

Located at 17 Main Street, Foxburg. Red Brick Galley weekend hours are Fridays, 1-6 PM; Saturdays, 11 AM to 7 PM; and Sundays, 12 noon to 5 PM.
