Alexander (Alec) Simpson Robertson

Alexander (Alec) Simpson Robertson; Most recently of Leesburg, VA, died peacefully August 22, 2023, surrounded by his beloved wife and all five children. He was two days shy of his 88th birthday and had just celebrated his 61st wedding anniversary to Marguerite (Peggy) C. Robertson, the whirlwind to his calm. He was the son of Alexander and Josephine Robertson of Foxburg, PA, and the youngest of their five children.

Alec was a savvy businessman and innovative thinker. He worked for a major American chemical corporation for 40 years at various locations in the United States and Europe, with positions starting as a chemical engineer, through various technology management levels, with final assignment being Director of Business Acquisitions. He had a striking intelligence and wit and could carry on a conversation with ease. He had a knack for relaying life lessons in a way that stuck and an unassuming presence that made you feel seen.

Alec generously gave of his time in whatever Virginia community in which he lived. He was president of The Magnolias at Lansdowne Woods Condominium Association (2020-22); president and board member of Wintergreen Summer Music Festival; and volunteer with the SPCA animal rescue, natural history museum, and very proud of helping design and build St. Mary’s Church in Lovingston, VA.

Alec truly loved travelling with his wife to 6 continents, more than 40 countries and 49 states. He was a skilled golfer and fisherman, master cribbage and bridge player, and avid reader. He was a true family man, spending a great amount of time with his children and grandchildren creating birthday treasure hunts, making Christmas candy, organizing scratch games of one-eyed cat, making up holes for frisbee golf, and just watching them all grow. One of his defining attributes was that he always made time for people, no matter how busy he was. He made you feel like you were the center of his world.

Surviving relatives include daughter Ellen Robertson (and husband Steve Stark of Falls Church, VA); daughter Amy Lemieux (and husband Robert of Fairfax, VA); daughter Emily Robertson-Yeingst (and husband Matthew of Centennial, CO); son James Robertson (and wife Elizabeth of White Lake, MI); and daughter Sarah Sutton (and husband Bryan of Sterling, VA). His legacy continues with 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Alec’s funeral Mass was held on Friday, August 25th at 10:30am, Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, 21371 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, VA 20147. There was a reception immediately following the Mass.
