Edward D. “Ed” Cypher, 92, of Chicora, went peacefully to be with the Lord in the comfort of his home, while surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday morning, April 7, 2026.

Edward was born in Worthington on September 5, 1933. He was the son of the late Paul and Henrietta Schnur Cypher.

Ed was a 1951 graduate of Worthington High School and retired from the service department of T.W. Phillips following more than 34 years of service. He was a Korean War Veteran of the United States Navy. Ed was an avid sportsman, and a longtime skilled golfer. Ed golfed in many golf leagues throughout the years, and he was the Monday Night Golf League’s recipient of the Iron Man Award for his dedication, love, and lifetime of achievements in the game of golf. Ed was also a skilled and competitive horseshoe pitcher and was the World Champion of the Elder Class at the NHPA World Tournament in 2008.

In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing baseball and bowling, trips to the casino and playing cards with family and friends. He along with his brother Carl operated the family farm in Clearfield Township for many years. He was a life member of Happy Hunter’s Sportsman’s Club, a member of the RC Men’s Club, the East Butler Fire Hall, the Chicora Moose Lodge, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion the VFW, and the Society of St. Vincent DePaul.

He is survived by his wife, the “love of his life”, Dolores E. Ritzert Cypher, whom me married at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in the Village of North Oakland on August 9, 1958. Also surviving are 5 children: Cindy MacKrell and her husband Les, Bonnie Adams and her husband Bob, Alesa Osche and her husband Art, Diane Fiegl and her husband Mark, and Eddie Cypher and his wife Stacey. Ed was affectionaly “Pap” to his many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he adored: Cory, Shauna, Dylan, Farrah, Bobby, Aaron, Clarissa, Carlee, Abbie, Kerstin; his nine great grandchildren: Colton, Ashlynn, Trexton, Remilynn, Myla, Maelee, Cecilia, Josie, and Colin. Also surviving are his sisters in law: Dorothy Cypher, Patricia Cypher, Sandy Cypher, and Nancy Schnur as well as a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister and brother in law Jean and William Crytzer, his brothers Robert Cypher and his wife Grace, Ronald Cypher, Carl Cypher, and Larry “Butch” Cypher, as well as a number of brothers in law and sisters in law and a nephew.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd. Chicora from 4-7 pm Thursday, April 9, 2026. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am Friday, April 9, 2026, from St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 668 Clearfield Rd. Fenelton, with Rev. Matt McClain, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, officiating. The interment will be in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery.
