Frank Theodore Smith III

Frank Theodore Smith III, 81, of North Washington, passed away early Monday morning, March 16, 2026, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born on January 18, 1945, in North Washington. He was the son of Frank Jr. and Leola (Campbell) Smith.

Frank married Paula Bruce on May 29, 1964, and she preceded him in death on August 2, 2022.

He worked as a Diesel Mechanic for 38 years at ARMCO in Butler.

In his spare time, he enjoyed car cruises, tinkering in his garage, or as he called it, “tinker shitting”, making a mess of things with his tractor, racing stock cars in his younger years, and spending time with his family and friends. Frank never passed up a good B.S. session with anyone.

Frank was a member of the Butler Area Street Machines Car Club.

He is survived by a son, Kenneth Smith, and his wife, Karen of Chicora, three grandchildren, Paul and Lauren Smith of Butler, Kurt and Maddie Smith of Lower Burrell, and Kayla Smith of Chicora, two sisters, Jeane Smith of Hooker, and Mindy Stroup and her husband, Ken, of Karns City. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by two sisters: Sue Hilliard and Becky Dunmire.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, March 19, 2026, at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home 201, So. Washington St., Eau Claire. Interment will be in the Mt. Varnum Cemetery, Washington Twp., Butler Co.
