Georgie K. “George” Ion, 72, of Chicora, formerly of Karns City, went to be with the Lord early Friday morning, April 5, 2024 at his residence.

Georgie was born in Butler on September 25, 1951. He was the son of Joan Cousins Ion Barger of Karns City and the late George Ion.

He attended school in Karns City and Ford City and later obtained his GED. In his younger years he was employed by the rubber plant in Kittanning and later worked in the construction trade. He was a United States Army veteran. George enjoyed fly-fishing, drag races, and the company of his grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately, “Pap”. He was keenly interested in American Indian artifacts and the history of the Seneca Tribe.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughters, Taylor K. Stanton and her husband, James, of Kittanning, Brooke Wetzel of Kentucky, and Laura Saravo and her husband, Ed, of Tennessee; his grandchildren, Landyn Crissman, Trevor Stanton, and Ariel and Max Saravo; two brothers, Bishop Alan J. Ion and his wife, Jackie, of Parker, and Tracy J. Ion Karns City; a sister, Sonya J. Bell and her husband, Joseph, of Chicora; a sister-in-law, Barbara Ion of Oil City, as well as a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, step-siblings and friends.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Howard Barger, his grandparents, and several cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Friends will be received at Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main Street, Karns City, from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2024. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 7 p.m. with George’s brother, Bishop Alan J. Ion, pastor of the Karns City Church of God of Prophecy, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery Sugarcreek Twp., Armstrong County.
