Maxine Simpson



Maxine Simpson, 92, of Emlenton, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 12, 2024, at Clarion Hospital.

Maxine was born in Salem Township, Clarion County, on December 13, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Rellie and Blanche Downing Dittman.

As a youth, Maxine attended school in St. Petersburg.  She was a member of the Sligo Presbyterian Church and enjoyed reading, puzzles, quilting, and in her younger years, square dancing, horse races, and volunteer work.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle L. “Jake” Simpson, who died on December 10, 2010. The couple was married in St. Petersburg on November 17, 1949.

Maxine is survived by her son, James A. “Jim” Simpson and his wife, Wendy; a granddaughter, Amanda D. Roudebush, and her husband, Jesse, all of Emlenton; two sisters, Shirley Smith of Cranberry and Donna Sheeley of Pleasantville, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Leonard, Walter, Henry, and Glenn Dittman, and her sisters, Gertrude Cotherman, Opal Schotting, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2024, at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton with the Rev. Edward Rudiger, her church pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Starr Cemetery, near Knox.
