Springdale Lutheran Church 150th Anniversary Celebration

The public is invited to the Springdale Lutheran Church for its 150th anniversary. The church is located at 1061 Mahood Road, West Sunbury, PA. The anniversary celebration will be held on July 25, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM and will feature a buffet style picnic, games and music.

Our church was named Springdale because of the many springs in the area.
Springdale Church was organized in July of 1876. The first building was dedicated in November of 1876. Much of the labor was done by members of the church.
In 1899 we joined with Rider Lutheran Church (West Sunbury) and Zion Lutheran Church (Chicora), and shared a minister because of the small congregations.
By using old boards from the pews in 1923, Chancel Furniture pews and a vestibule was added to the front of the church.

In 1940 the power lines of Central Electric were brought through the area and electric was first used in 1941.
During 1960 we purchased an oil furnace for the church.
During 1970 we needed more room and a basement was dug underneath the church building. A front addition was added to the existing building, a water well was drilled, restrooms were added and another oil furnace was added to heat the addition.
~ In 1978 Sunday school rooms were carpeted.
~ In 1979 a new Allen Organ was purchased with memorial gift and donations.
~ In 1985 new stained-glass windows were put in and a new roof was completed.
During the 1990’s they had vinyl siding installed. The building had to be repainted because of gypsy moths. A new range and new pump were installed.
By 1996 Rider Church decided to go on their own making us a two-party church.
In the early 2000’s we had pews scrubbed and polyurethane. The basement walls were painted. New lighting was put in the basement.
In 2015 a smaller organ was donated.
In 2021 A ramp was put into the basement with a memorial donation. The Eagle Scouts Project put a roof over the ramp.
We replaced our wooden ramp with a new cement ramp going into the church.
We organized a Friendly Followship Group. We started saving plastic for benches, five years ago, for none profit organizations, we have gotten three for our church, and now we are helping others. On Thursday night we get together, work on plastic, and are entertained by the band practicing Gospel and Country music. Anyone is welcome to come and listen to the music 6 PM - ?
Our annual rummage sale is in March or April, when it ends, we take men’s clothes and items that can be used to Mechling Shalley in Cowansville, a non-profit Veteran’s home. The rest of the items are taken to Saint Vincent DePaul for donation.
We do a back pack program for Dassa McKinney Elementary School.
We have had a cookie exchange in December and given to shut ins and nursing homes in the area. We have made pies for meals and wheels in West Sunbury and Eau Claire. We have a Christmas tree we decorate with hats, gloves, mittens, and socks to give to those in need.
For fundraisers, we bake pies and sell hoagies. All profits are given to the church.
