The Tradition Continues In Parker - Parker Polar Bear Plunge This Thursday

The traditional New Year’s Eve celebration has given way to a New Year’s Day celebration in Parker.

The Parker Polar Plunge will once again kick off the new year in Parker this Thursday, January 1st.

Come check this one off your bucket list!

Registration for the event will be held from 9:00 AM to 12:45 PM. The jump will take place at 1:00 PM at the Parker boat launch area.

The event over the past few years has helped raise money for local organizations.

For many, the cold frigid water is a boost that regenerates the body; it has become a symbol of the New Year and beginning for all. Call it a cleansing if you will.

The first plunge took place in 2006 with a group of six friends (Bob Bowser, Tony Davenport, Kline Terwilliger, Steve Say, Tommy Myers and Greg Bowser) jumping into the cold waters for basically “something to do”.

After taking the plunge for no apparent reason, a committee was formed and “Freezin' for a Reason”, helped raised money for many local organizations the following years.

The second year event took place in 2008 and garnished 34 participants and raised $559.

In 2009 Freezin' for a Reason generated $1164.

The event snowballed the next two years with 209 and 474 registered participants.

After several years in remission, the event was rekindled by Shelly Kaltenbach from Unviversal Forest Products, LLC. That year the event raised $6500.

Come experience the tradition in Parker with family and friends.

Stop by one of the local establishments to get warmed up and a bite to eat!
