St. Clare Parish includes much of the Petroleum Valley and its world-class chemical and refining companies. This region and its people were vital in jump-starting global fossil fuel development about 150 years ago.

You are invited to a spiritual and historical presentation discussing aspects of this history, the significance of technological developments, and a brief spiritual reflection on fossil fuel’s blessings and challenges.

Deacon Bruce Beaver, Phd., is currently a professor of chemistry at Duquesne University with more than 35 years of experience in the chemistry of fossil fuels. Recently, Beaver, a long-time St. Wendelin parishioner, was ordained a Deacon in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

All are invited to Mater Dolorosa Church Hall (basement) on Saturday, November 5th at 1:30 PM till 3:30 PM for this special presentation, followed by storytelling from local folks she were and are participants in this fascinating history. Other possible speakers include, Tom Knoll, Joe McCloskey, Bret Hilderbrand, Bill Liberto, Mike Rabbitt, Brent Francisco, Floyd Niegh and Ed Craig.

St. Clare Parish includes, St. Wendelin Church, Butler; St. Joseph Church, North Oakland; and Mater Dolorosa Church in Chicora.
