PITTSBURGH (March 20, 2025) – Allegheny Health Network’s (AHN) Schools of Nursing are now accepting applications for full-time and part-time nursing students for their incoming classes.
Applications are being accepted through May 1 for the full-time registered nurse (RN) programs at AHN’s two nursing schools: West Penn Hospital School of Nursing (WPSON) in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood, and Citizens School of Nursing (CSON) in Tarentum. Classes begin Aug. 18.
Both schools offer a 22-month curriculum with classroom learning and hands-on clinical experiences led by highly qualified faculty members. Small class sizes and one-on-one learning opportunities provide a personalized experience for each student.

CSON also offers a part-time RN nursing program, providing increased flexibility for students through evening and weekend classes stretched over 32 months. Enrollment in the part-time 32-month RN program at Citizens grew by 125% from 2024 to 2025.
According to the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania is projected to have a shortfall of more than 20,000 nurses by 2026.
“I’ve been wanting to go back to nursing school for a few years but could never find a program that fit my schedule and needs,” said Taylor Self, an AHN certified medical assistant who lives in Butler County and is now enrolled in the part-time RN program at CSON. “I applied not thinking that this part-time program would make the biggest difference in my life. I can go to school and succeed while working full-time. I did not need to put my whole life on hold to go after my dreams. I could not recommend this program more.”
The deadline for the CSON part-time RN program is Sept. 1, and classes begin for the new cohort on Jan. 6, 2026.
Both AHN Citizens and West Penn Schools of Nursing graduates boasted a 100% National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) pass rate in 2024. Additionally, 98% of graduates from the class of 2023 obtained a position in a healthcare setting within one year of graduation. Many AHN nursing school graduates are hired to work within the network’s hospitals post-graduation with a highly competitive salary.
“The impressive state board exam scores and exceptional job placement rate of our RN graduates are a powerful testament to the rigorous, comprehensive education and training provided by the AHN Schools of Nursing curriculum,” said Amy Stoker, PhD, RN, director of the AHN Schools of Nursing. “We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements, which reflect the dedication of our faculty and the commitment to excellence that defines our program.”
On-site dormitory-style housing is available at the West Penn School of Nursing, while the Citizens School of Nursing has free, on-site parking.
AHN Schools of Nursing offers various types of financial aid such as federal government grants, federal student loans, state grants, scholarships, and private educational loans.
